By Brian Beatty
The translucent boy
leading the one-eyed
cow through town
shuffles along
with the bent
back &
cracked song
of an older man
who’s lived his life
behind push brooms.
Their shadows
drag after
& somehow
ahead of them
— spilling over
curbs &
gutters like a flood
of oil struck
to turn everyone rich
beyond laughter
then just
as quickly leave us
on fire.
